Message from the Chairman
Recent messages have expressed concerns about the role of Goodwill: Is it needed? Is it still relevant? Can it be sustainable? My report to the AGM was a resounding ‘yes’ to all these questions, and I believe that everyone who attended came away sharing my optimism.
We have been able to arrange various visits from UK Trustees through the last eighteen months to assess the need- it definitely still exists. Latest statistics from Madurai suggest that there are three thousand local orphans needing support and care. The new structure in India with the recent appointment of Mr Santhosh as CEO is enabling Goodwill to modernize and respond to the current and future needs of the local communities- so I believe it is still relevant. Our focus includes long-term sustainability, not just in terms of our effect on the planet but also with good financial management and improved partnerships with the local authorities in Tamil Nadu.
Mr Santhosh was able to address our supporters via a video link and gave them a flavour of his approach. There is no doubt that they could recognize his enthusiasm for the task at hand. Once he completes his first hundred days in post, I will ensure that he shares his thoughts on the future so that you too can play a full part in the future journey of Goodwill.
Whatever happens, it is vital that we retain the family feel that has helped Goodwill prosper for so long.
Thank you for your continued support.
